Samuel Toro Pérez (they/them) is a multifaceted guitarist, composer, performer and producer based in Vienna. Rooted in contemporary music, their work spans both traditional concert performances and trans-disciplinary collaborations in contexts such as theatre, dance, performance and media art. In their solo projects (e.g. Ambient StudiesPink Opaque), Samuel explores the intersections of classical contemporary music, club culture and experimental electronic sound worlds, delving into ambient, drone, noise and techno with a particular focus on feedback systems and performativity.

Samuel has been selected as a soloist for the biannual sponsorship program The New Austrian Sound of Music (NASOM) by the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA) and has performed at the International Impuls Academy Graz, SONIC MATTER Zurich and Tarapacá Musica Festival Iquique (CL) et al.  

Samuel’s ongoing collaborations include their role as member of the Viennese collective andother stage (eg. when we play / Wien modern 2024) and Samuel’s long-term co-operation with the theatre director Maximilian Hanisch (eg. the lobster / Zurich 2022, The Conversation / Basel & Berlin 2023, HER – best ever love songs vol. 2 / Zurich 2024). Additionally, Samuel makes regular guest apperances with ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, Schallfeld Ensemble and Black Page Orchestra at venues and festivals such as Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Library of Congress Washington,  Biennale Musica Venice, Wien Modern and Musica Electronica Nova Wrocław.

Samuel teaches contemporary guitar and chamber music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
